Research Questions

Results

A Public Health Issue

What can create awareness in the workplace?

What happened after the questionnaires?

  • Descriptive & Inferential
  • Test used: Paired Sample t-test
  • Means are compared from pre and post questionnaires
  • Significant results are highlighted on handout
  • Results significant at the 95% and 99% confidence interval
  • 95% = <0.05
  • 99% = <0.01
  • What type of media outlet would create more awareness?
  • What type of workplace program will influence mental health awareness?
  • Why would work-life balance create positive mental health awareness?
  • How can mental health education increase mental health awareness?
  • How can personal knowledge increase mental health awareness?
  • When should culture be considered in organizational mental health awareness?
  • How can employee self –esteem improve mental health awareness in the workplace?
  • How are human rights a foundation of workplace mental health awareness programs?

My hypothesis: If mental health education is incorporated into the work environment, there will be more awareness in the workplace.

  • Null Hypothesis: There is no significant

difference between the pre mental health

awareness questionnaire and post mental health awareness questionnaire.

  • Alternative Hypothesis: There is

significant difference between the pre

mental health awareness questionnaire

and post mental health awareenss

questionnaire.

  • Community and Public

Health concentration

  • Managerial Implication
  • More than an absence of a mental illness
  • Mental health “is what makes life enjoyable, productive, and fulfilling, and it contributes to social capital and economic development in societies
  • 1 in 4 Americans have a mental health issue.

Recommendation

What else can be done?

  • Conduct qualitative research
  • Use larger population
  • Incorporate various forms of seminars for alternate learning technique
  • Additional research involving religion and correlation with awareness
  • Provide stepping stones for workplace programs promoting awareness.
  • Investigate workplace specific programs for different size organizations.

Purpose Statement

Problem Statement

What is the issue and vision?

~Thank You~

When employees of a workplace environment are exposed to initiatives to upsurge positive mental health, support of workplace awareness and further evolution of positive mental health would develop. The expansion of mental health awareness in the workplace will explore efficient and effective ways for awareness delivery (Jané-Llopis, 2007). The problem is that positive mental health knowledge and resources in the workplace is not a universal notion. Therefore, a workplace environment without mental health awareness would greatly impact its employees and the organization as a whole. From the perspective of the manager, identifying an issue such as mental health may present challenges that some may not be knowledgeable to solve. “They may lack confidence, may not understand what is wrong, and, with many other competing demands, may not wish to deal with something they may perceive as weakness” (Frost, 2010, p. 33). The large presence of mental health incidences should influence both managers and employees to be educated and capable to address any feelings of mental distress. Transforming the workplace comprehension of mental health towards a positive working environment and an advocate for proper knowledge will enhance organizational culture and future effective interventions.

Bridging the gap of mental health awareness and the workplace is a current topic that must be handled with care. To best study this relationship, the quantitative methods research design was used. A survey strategy use of a closed-ended questionnaire was employed. The questionnaire will be administered to a random sample of individuals working at a day habilitation establishment consisting of men and women ages 21 and over. The data received in the research is further analyzed with descriptive and inferential analysis.
