1970 Clean Air Act Begins
- Amended because many states failed to meet the required targets of air quality
- Led to dramatic improvements in the quality of the air we breathe
- Protects public health and the economy
- Established national air quality standards
- Lowered levels of many common and toxic pollutants (i.e. carbon monoxide, nitrogen and sulfur dioxide)
2015
2015 Clean Air Act
- National Emissions of common pollutants alone dropped an average of 70% while gross domestic products grew by 246%
1990
- Concentration of air pollutants improved
- 84% - carbon monoxide
- 67% - sulfur dioxide
- 85% - lead
- 60% - hydrogen dioxide
- 3% - ozone
- Original Act was amended and additional amendments include
- Acid Rain
