Keep the Colon clean
Q: Why do people choose to have colon hydrotherapy?
- poor digestion issues such as bloating, gas, constipation and/or or acid reflux;
- skin issues such as acne, eczema or psoriasis;
- drug and chemical free colonoscopy preparation;
- to improve overall health and well being. And let’s face it some folks are just curious and want to try it out!
- Many People have preconceived ideas about colon hydrotherapy/colonics and they imagine the worst. Whereas in reality, colon hydro therapy treatments leave you feeling cleaner, lighter and with a greater sense of well being. A colon hydrotherapy treatment tones the bowel and improves elimination during and after the treatment. Better elimination means a reduced toxic load on the body
- After completing a series of colon hydrotherapy treatments many people experience:
- Clearer eyes and skin
- Improved bowel function
- Improved mental clarity and less “brain fog”
- Improved digestion and much less gas and bloating
- More energy
- Greater overall feeling of health and well being

Are detox diets good for you?
- The word diet is synonymous with deprivation and no human likes to feel deprived. We tend to rebel in nature and therefore to diet may in fact cause more problems than it is worth.
- Instead we are focused on healthy living day in and day out. It is a lifestyle we follow and are mindful of what we consume as our main source of nutrients. Small, permanent changes will make all the difference.
- Ryan Andrews shows us how too much of a good thing might apply to detox “diets” vs. clean eating everyday

Alkalinity
Tips and Tricks
In order to restore pH Balance!
- All life giving chemical reactions happen when electrons are flowing in balance
- Alkaline whole foods are electron balancing (they are paired)
- Your body’s acid/alkaline chemistry and how it can result in weight loss, increased stamina and strength, and a stronger immune system
- Maintaining a balance of 75 percent alkaline foods and 25 percent acidic foods is ideal. An easy way to accomplish this is to make fruits and vegetables the main part of each meal. Most fruits and vegetables are alkaline in nature. Some fruits, such as citrus, have an acidic pH outside of the body, but when consumed, leave an alkaline residue in the body after being metabolized.
- Tip #4 - Tea & Coffee
- Tea & coffee are, of course, acid-forming - so if you need to cut them from your diet look for substitutes. All herbal teas are alkaline (except for the very fruity ones and green tea, which contains nearly as much caffeine as coffee). Rooibos (Redbush) tea is a fantastic, anti-oxidant rich alternative to coffee and tea.
- Tip #5 – Bread
- Bread is a tough one for many people, who rely upon it as a quick, filling part of lunch and breakfast. Try sprouted breads, which are mildly alkaline. If these are hard to find go for wraps instead of sandwiches and look for yeast free/gluten free varieties.
- Tip #6 - Hydration
- Staying properly hydrated is probably the most important element of the alkaline diet. Not just any water will do! Tap water is actually mildly acidic in most areas with a low pH and traces of pesticides, heavy metals, fluoride and other nasties. Research the alkaline water options. Coconut water is highly alkaline too!

Acidity
- http://www.livestrong.com/article/47620-acid-vs.-alkaline-body/
- A body that is acidic is more prone to develop auto immune diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. The body is affected on a cellular level.
- Acidity enhances inflammation
- Raises cortisol levels and impairs sleep
- To protect our blood and keep it in balance, the body steals alkaline minerals such as calcium and magnesium from our bones, thus making them weaker
- Acidic toxins include carcinogens and mutagens caused by free radicals
- Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen
- Weight gain and even obesity
- Bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones
- Immune deficiency. And the acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations
- Hormone concerns and premature aging including symptoms such as Osteoporosis; weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs
- Joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup
- Low energy and chronic fatigue
- Slow digestion and elimination
- Yeast/fungal overgrowth
- Tip #1 - Fruits
- It might come as a surprise that fruits are considered to be acid-forming. This is purely because of their high sugar content, and so I strongly advise that you keep fruit to a minimum. However, you don’t have to avoid it completely and a piece per day as part of a balanced diet is fine.
- Tip #2 - I Thought It Was Acid?!
- There are a few exceptions where intuition goes out of the window and the most obvious of these is lemons and limes being considered as alkaline. This is because they have a high alkaline mineral content and almost no sugar - so they have an alkaline effect on the body after they are consumed. The same goes for tomatoes.
- Tip #3 - Soy & Soy Sauce
- Soy sauce, miso, tamari and all other fermented foods are acid-forming. This does not apply to the unfermented versions however miso & tamari are OK to consume as part of your 20% mildly acid foods.

Quote of the Day…
- “When you take the step towards your dreams you will be met with fears because you have never traveled this way before. As you go, you will discover that you had nothing to fear. Through overcoming your fears you give those that follow you hope that if they pursue their dreams, they will achieve their dreams.”

The pH scale.
It regulates our health.
- Water has a neutral pH of 7. Blood has a pH of 7.35 to 7.45, slightly alkaline. Your body fights hard to neutralize acids and maintain the proper pH in organs, tissues and body fluids. But it can only do that for so long before a condition known as acidosis occurs. You have to give the body what it needs, in the form of alkalizing fruits and vegetables, so that it can properly maintain the delicate acid/alkaline balance. Healthy saliva has a pH balance of 6.75 – 7 and urine is a little higher at a 7.5 pH level.
- Stress plays a role in altering the body’s pH as well. When you're stressed, you breathe shallowly, failing to blow off carbon dioxide and allowing it to build up in your systems. The body must deal with this build-up, so it starts the process of balancing by breaking down the extra carbon dioxide. This is great, except if you eat a double-cheeseburger with fries and a soda for lunch. The body is so busy dealing with the acidic food load that the built-up carbon dioxide may have to wait. The result: an acidic internal environment.

Smoothies vs. Juicing
- Become less hungry sooner and support cravings
- Plant fibre allows sugar to be absorbed slower
- High fibre allows digestive tract to keep moving along
- Require less food and therefore cost less
- No plant fibre; faster and greater absorption
- Nutrient dense; high concentration of vitamins and minerals
- Supports liver detox
- High antioxidants combat damaging effects of free radicals
Juice Feasting
- While committed to the detoxification process, it is suggested that after 9 days of eliminating the causes of acidifying foods in the body and eating foods the liver loves, juicing can provide an infusion of minerals to your cells and your body will be ready to absorb them properly.
- Time for your body to dump toxins, regenerate and rest!
- Juice cleanses the body of mucus and congestive wastes – it literally picks up the dead matter in your body and carries it away.
How Does the Body Eliminate Toxins?
There are 7 detoxification channels in the body that work together to remove harmful waste
- Liver: The liver changes harmful toxins into substances that can be safely eliminated from the body
- Colon: The colon eliminates toxins produced by the liver
- Kidneys: The liver sends water soluble waste to the kidneys, where they are filtered and finally eliminated through the bladder
- Blood: Blood flows through the vascular system and carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body, while at the same time, removing harmful waste
- Skin: Skin eliminates toxins through perspiration
- Lungs: The lungs expel toxins through breathing and expelling mucous. Deep breathing stimulates lymphatic flow to eliminate toxins.
- Lymphatic System: Blood is only 25% of the body’s fluids, while the Lymph is 75%. Lymph nodes are the police stations and eliminates poisons through a network of vessels that extend through out the body.
- Two main functions of the Lymphatic system are:
- To start any detoxification process, you need to leave 6 things behind
- the sewage system
- the immune system
- (these are all on the acidic side of the chart)
- Milk and dairy products
- Gluten
- Caffeine
- Alcohol and refined sugars
- Bad fats (hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated oils, heated and refined oils)
- Smoking
