About Frederick William
- Frederick William was born Feb. 16, 1620.
- He died May 9 1688.
- He was the Oldest son of Elector George William and Elizabeth Charlotte.
- His great grandfather was William the Silent, Prince of Orange.
- He grew up during the 30 years war.
- He also spent most of his childhood at the fortress Kustrin where he received a Calvinist education.
- From the age of 14 to 18 he stayed in the Netherlands.
- He became the Elector of Brandenburg and the Duke of Prussia in 1640 after his father died.
