Lies- Marina And The Diamonds

-how Ophelia is feeling after Hamlet is so rude to her when she gives back his love letter taht he gave her

OPHELIA

I chose this song to use in my Hamlet soundtrack for Ophelia's character. In the play Ophelia seems to be driven by the lies and corruption of people in the play. However Ophelia might have used madness as a cover, much like Hamlet does. Ophelia is unaware of Hamlet's own of insanity, and she eventually fakes her own death to escape the maddness

-Ophelia's suicidal thoughts

-Hamlet won't admit to his wrong doing. He has been acting so strange and won't tell Ophelia why. He could have told her about the ghost, which would have caused less heart-ache

Cry Like A Ghost- Passion Pit

You're never gonna love me, so what's the use?

What's the point in playing a game you're gonna lose?

What's the point in saying you love me like a friend?

What's the point in saying it's never gonna end?

You're too proud to say that you've made a mistake

You're a coward to the end

I don't wanna admit that we're not gonna fit

No, I'm not the type that you like

Why don't we just pretend?

Lies, don't wanna know, don't wanna know oh

I can't let you go, can't let you go oh

I just want it to be perfect

To believe it's all been worth the fight

Lies, don't wanna know, don't wanna know oh

-Parallels to Hamlet being caught up in his fathers death

-overall tone of the song: gloomy, bitter, heart broken, out of it

-Ophelia is all about doing what people tell her to do and trying to please everyone. Only until she acts crazy and commits suicide, does she barely get her point across to everyone taht she isn't just a pawn that can be pushed around

"And in the porches of my ears did pour/The leperous distilment; whose effect/Holds such an enmity with blood of man"

-the quest referred to in this song cane compared to the ghost's quest for revenge for his gruesome murderer

-the death of her father Polonius

-once again, can parallel with her suicidal thoughts

-"Doom'd for a certain term to walk the night,/And for the day confined to fast in fires..." (time)

Out on my own where I found you alone

You were caught up in somebody elses mess

And yes, I drank all those drinks on my own

My lifes become some blurry little quest

And the clock kept ticking slowly

And you leaned over and asked me

If I even had a clue where I was

Sick to the bone on the steps to my home

The moon shined through the drapery of leaves

To hurt, to ignore everyone of my own

But true love just to feel some made-up breeze

But as my body crumbled

While all the others told me

That if I kept on going Id be dead

Its not just you who felt the pain

-the king describing how terrible the limbo state he is in

play here

-when the king met Hamlet at mid-night to tell Hamlet to kill Claudius

Rabbit Heart-Florence and The Machine

- Compared to when the poison took effect over his body,"And a most instant tetter bark'd about,/Most lazar-like, with vile and loathsome crust,/All my smooth body."

-Hamlet's royal title

Hamlet Soundtrack

Your Life Is A Lie- MGMT

Sound Of Silence- Simon and Garfunkel

-Clauius can't say a thing about what he did or else he would lose all of his power and support from everyone

-speaks about the lack of communication people have with one another which goes along with Hamlet not talking about his feeling and still being up set about the death of his father

-Hamlet always debates with himself whether he should actually kill Claudius

CLAUDIUS

-"to be or not to be"-(death & darkness)

-portrays a vision or dream that was had-Hamlet visioning his father

I chose to add the song I did because I think it shows what Claudius is telling/thinking about himself; killing his own brother and marrying his brother's wife. He most likely feels guilty. We can gather this information from when Hamlet puts on the little play and Claudius gets so mad that he gets up and leaves. Claudius is bent on maintaining his own power. However when he finally can't manipulate others into believing what he wants them to believe his power crumbles.

-Describes how Hamlet feels alone because no one can relate to his feelings. Hamlet finds himself emotionally and physically alone

"O that this too too solid flesh would melt,/Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew!/Or that the Everlasting had not fixed/ His canon 'gainst self-slaughter!"

5.Your Life a Lie-MGMT

-Claudius is literally living a lie, no one knows the manipulation and shrewd crimes he had to compit to come into power. The court thinks he is an honest man.

-The "halo" could also be hamlet's father and how he is walking under him if his father is a ghost. Hamlet feels that his father is guiding him, just like a street light would on a dark street

-The neon flashing light could be when Hamlet first sees the ghost king.

Hello darkness, my old friend

I've come to talk with you again

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone

Narrow streets of cobblestone

'Neath the halo of a street lamp

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared

Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know

Silence like a cancer grows

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take my arms that I might reach you"

But my words, like silent raindrops fell

And echoed

In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls

And tenement halls"

And whispered in the sounds of silence

-Claudius has buried his secrets along with his brother's body

-Hamlet's opinion about the people in the court, they don't actually care

Here's the deal

Open your eyes

Your life is a lie

Don't say a word

I'll tell you why

You're living a lie

Your life is a lie

But you deny, you ever lied wondering why

Bury your life

Count your friends

On your hands

Now look again

They're not your friends

Hold your breath

Everyone left

No surprise

Living a lie

Tell your wife

This is your life

Your life is a lie

This is your wife

Now she knows, she understands

Her life is a lie

Nobody wins

Try not to cry

You'll survive

On your own

-Hamlet is not mad but rather he just pretends to be mad in order express his feelings, formulate new plans, and to gain information from everyone

-Claudius

-Claudius’s mounting fear of Hamlet’s insanity leads him to more self doubt

-Hamlet warned people that something was wrong by the way he acted crazy and like he was unstable

-The Castle

-Claudius’s love for Gertrude might be real, but it most likely is a strategic move, to help him win the throne from Hamlet

-Gertrude relizes that Claudius is insincre when she drinks the wine met for Hamlet andit is poisoned

-everyone dies at the end...

Hamlet Soundtrack

This song relates to Hamlet and could fit well into a movie sountrack because it is about how you have to be brave, which is what Hamlet has to do in order to kill Claudius and revenge his fathers death. He offers himself to revenge his fathers death and take on the duty of killing Claudius, but he understands that he's going to have to change to make his plans happen.

Hamlet's Thoughts

Hamlet: I need to be brave and kill him! But should I?

coward

brave

-Hamlet can never deside if he should kill Claudius becasue he is afraid to

-the final sacrafice would be to go trough with the plan and kill Claudius

-when the ghost appears to Hamlet he agrees to revenge his fathers death-a heavy offering

-in this case "Midas" would be bravery. In the song when she is turned into gold, Hamlet finally is able to kill Claudius

Here I am, a rabbit hearted girl

Frozen in the headlights

It seems I'll make the final sacrifice

We raise it up

This offering

We raise it up

This is a gift, it comes with a price

Who is the lamb and who is the lion?

Midas is king and he holds me so tight

And turns me to gold in the sunlight

I look around but I can't find you

Raise it up

If only I could see your face

Raise it up

I started rushing towards the skylight

Raise it up

I wish that I could just be brave

I must become the lion hearted girl

Ready for a fight

Before I make the final sacrifice

-Hamlet's father that had just been poisoned

-"Raise it up" can be compared to the numerous times Hamlet is trying to convince himself to murdered Claudius and avenge his fathers death. He would work him self up and then decide not to each time. Until the end...finally

WHICH IS IT HAMLET?

or

RABBIT

LION
