record of the Buddha’s teachings
‘Tri’ meaning “three” and
‘pitaka’ meaning “basket”
It is written on palm leaves in the
Pali language (that is why the
Tripitaka is also known as the
“Pali Canon”)
Was handed down orally, then
written down in the 3rd century B.C.
