the Jesuits people were a group or catholic who came to new France so that they could make the native americans catholic so they could follow the way of life. the Jesuits came to new France 1634. in 1639 they established there main mission Santa Marie-aux-herons witch was the central base for their missionary work. sainte marie was a forfied town with farms, workshops, and a mill, stables,a hospital, and a church. suplies were transported by canoes to sainte marie down the sainte lawrence river. by establishing their own shelter and collect their own food where misionaries could seek shelter.
The Jesuits tried to make the natives turn into Europeans. They thought native Americans had no religion so it would be easy to make them Europeans. Soon they realized this was not true and the native resisted conversion (Witch means if the Jesuits said come to this church the natives would say "No!") The Jesuits did not like that they were saying no! so they started to separate the children from there family's and the kids would learn how to be priests so they would go be with the Europeans easier. (because a priest preaches the word of god.) Jesuits believed that kids were educated and they would be persuaded to abandon there religin and be a european/christian but they realized it was hard with native children as well because they were small so they could run away fast.
a difficulty the Jesuits were having was trying to explain Christianity to them but they did not really understand . the hurons did not understand trinity (trinity is the father the son and the holy spirit). and they were confused that Jesus was 3 people. often times the Jesuits were translated. one example of a hurons minister pretatetion since heaven was some where above earth the souls would fall back down.
