Cell Structure Analogy
Vesicles
Chromosomes
Chromosomes ensure that DNA is accurately copied and distributed in the vast majority of cell division.
Taylor Swift's songs are what people want to hear. With her voice, she sings her songs which is heard throughout the arena.
The vesicles in the cell are responsible for:
- storing, transporting, or digesting cellular products and cellular waste
The washrooms in the arena are the vesicles.
- It is where the audience goes before, during, or after the concert to get rid of their waste and to wash their hands to remove the germs that they have touched
Rough ER
The Rough ER is responsible for the synthesis and packaging of the proteins
- Ribosomes are attached to the ER's membrane, therefore making it rough
Cell Membrane
Nucleus
The crowd of fans represent the Rough ER because the ribosomes (the sounds/speakers) are constantly playing in the audience's ear's, making them pumped up for the music and a bit aggressive with other fans; especially if they are in the front row
As the "brain" of the cell:
- The nucleus controls the hereditary characteristics of an organism.
- It is responsible for protein synthesis, cell division, growth and differentiation.
Mitochondria
Chromatin
Since the Cell Membrane supports and protects the cell:
- it controls the movement of the materials in and out of the cell
- it is the barrier between the cell and its environment
The tickets for the concert controls who gets to go to the performance or not
- without a ticket, fans will not have the access to attend the concert
- the tickets control the people outside from entering the arena
Vacuoles
The stage manager controls the whole production.
- He/she is responsible for making sure the everything happens when it should and that the whole show runs smoothly.
The mitochondria,"the power house of the cell" supplies all the necessary energy of the cell
- responsible for ATP Production
Chromatin:
- packages DNA into a smaller volume to fit into the nucleus of the cell.
- reinforces the DNA macromolecules to allow mitosis.
- prevents DNA damage.
- controls gene expression and DNA replication.
Nuclear Envelope
The vacuoles job includes:
- coloration
- transport
- stores oils, carbohydrates, water, or toxins
The tour truck can be considered the vacuole:
- It transports the equipment needed for the concert and stores extra materials in the vehicle.
The nuclear enevelope surrounds the nucleus with a double membrane with multiple pores.
- The pores regulate the passage of macromolecules.
The microphone allows Taylor's voice to be projected throughout the arena.
- Taylor's voice is able to go through the mic and be reinforced for everyone to here.
- She expresses herself through her songs which are heard at her shows with the help of a microphone.
The music played during the concert represents the mitochondria in a cell
- The songs being played from the album are what brings power throughout the whole performance
- It is important to keep the concert going
- The music also brings energy throughout the crowds of fans
The stage acts as a protection to the stage manager, the performer and all the production crew.
- the stage is surrounded by a fence with security guards.
- only those who are permitted are allowed to get through.
Matrix
Nucleolus
The matrix is a complete mixture of proteins and enzymes
- it contains the DNA and ribosomes of the mitochondria
- citric acid takes place here
The nucleolus could loosely be thought of as the brain of the nucleus.
- The nucleolus makes ribosomal subunits from proteins and ribosomal RNA, also known as rRNA.
- It then sends the subunits out to the rest of the cell where they combine into complete ribosomes.
Cristae
The cristae increases the surface area of the inner mitochondria when a reaction takes place
Cell Wall
The band symbolizes the matrix of the cell because it consists of many different band members and contains the rhythms and beat of the music
- it is also where the sound takes place
The performer, in this case, Taylor Swift, would be the nucleolus.
- Taylor Swift creates the concept of the show.
- Stage setup, lighting, dance numbers, costumes, etc.
- Her vision is the communicated to people on her team and they make her vision happen.
The cell wall provides structural support and protection.
Taylor's background dancers represent the cristae
- they are part of the music (mitochondria in this case)
- whenever a part of a song hits another beat, the dancers react to it with another move
- they also spread out on the stage taking up more surface area
The venue of the concert, an arena or stadium provides:
- structural support of stage setup
- protection for all at the venue
Nuclear Pore
The nuclear pore regulates the transportation of molecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
The crew regulates what happens during the show.
- Production crew
- Stage Crew, Tech Crew, etc.
- If there are problems, they report it to the stage manager.
- If there are problems with fans, they report it the security guards.
Golgi Body
The Golgi Body packages and delivers
- it brings protein and lipids in and out of the cell
- they gather simple molecules and combines them to make molecules that are more complex
Smooth ER
Chloroplast
The Smooth ER packages and transports lipids and steroids
- it acts as a storage organelle
Ribosomes
Chloroplasts work to convert light energy of the sun into sugars that can be used by cells.
Taylor's guitar represents the golgi body because:
- the instrument itself can contain many different sounds depending on the strumming and notes, delivering various kinds of songs
- each string when strummed, can make a simple sound, but when the fingers start forming the chords together, it produces something more complex; the whole song
The camera man converts the focus on the stage, including lights and performers, to the jumbo screens that can be seen by the audience from any set in the venue.
The backstage of the concert similar to the Smooth ER
- it stores all the equipment that will be used throughout the performance
- backstage is where all the action takes place to make sure that the concert runs smoothly
- it is the "behind the scenes"
Ribosomes support the cells many functions:
- every cell needs them because they are the protein builders
- they connect one amino acid at a time and build a long chain
- the protein it produces are used in the cell
Cytoplasm
Cytoskeleton
Cytoskeleton gives structural support and facilitates movement through the cell.
- Cytoplasm is responsible for giving an cell its shape.
- It helps to fill out the cell and keep all orangelles in its place.
The Sound System carries the music throughout the whole arena:
- every arena (cell) needs them because they are what carries the performance out to the crowd through the speakers
- each speaker is connected through wires all around the arena to produce the music
Walkways in the venue and stadium/arena seating allowing materials, such as stage equipment and people move through the venue.
Security guards keep the venue in line and everyone in their plave.
Lysosomes
The duties of the lysosomes are:
The audience are being entertained throughout the whole performance while eating food from the concession
- They digest the food that they eat
- They also recycle their cans and bottles after they finish drinking their beverages
