-Important advancements were made for the native peoples, for woman, for those with low and fixed incomes, and in the area of law reform

-election of 1874 liberals won 133 seats and the conservatives with 73 -the next four years had prime minister Alexander Mackenzie

-1880 Edward Blake became leader for liberal party

-Wilfred Laurier became leader of liberals after Edward Blake

-He preached the ideal of national unity

-he spent 45 years in the house of commons with 15 of them as Prime Minister - died 1919

-William Lyon Mackenzie King became leader

-In 1921 liberals were one seat short of a majority

-Next four years Mackenzie pursued policies such as support for the canadian national railway

-in 1927 and 1928 the impact of the great depression in 1929 left liberal party wondering what to do and the conservatives became in power following this

-1930 conservative party beat liberals

-1935 Mackenzie king returned back to power

-1957 St Laurent resigned as liberal party leader but had policies such as having students as an immediate objective

-1958 Lestor B Pearson was chosen as new leader
