Analogy: The Animal Cell and the Hotel

Lysosome

Centriole

The lysosome is like a hotel custodian. They pick up trash and have to tools necessary to scrub out unwanted waste to prepare the room for the next guests.

A centriole is like the founder of a hotel chain. He is part of the original and provides the example and guides others breaking off from that chain on how to build the hotel.

Lysosome

Cytoskeleton

Cell Membrane

Ribosomes

The cytoskeleton is like the outer metal framework of a building. It provides the shell and gives the cell its shape.

Ribosomes are like the food service. They take meals from outside of the kitchen and add finishing touches. They then use the transportation system and bring meals to all of the guests who ordered.

The cell membrane is like the front desk clerk. They control what enter and leaves the structure and keeps track of both.

Nucleus

The nucleus is like the hotel manager. It keeps tabs on everything in the structure and gives orders when needed. It keeps everything under control so that nothing goes horribly wrong.

DNA/Chromosomes

The DNA is like the check-in-records. It keeps all records of who stayed, left, and who has made a reservation for later dates. It holds the information for most of the hotel.

Mitochondria

Rough ER

The mitochondria is like the hotel kitchen. It provides energy for the guests in the structure and keeps everything running.

The rough ER are like the elevators. They are a main form of transportation troughout the stucture. They are used to transport guests, food, and employees.

Golgi Apparatus

The golgi apparatus is like the bell hops. Finishes packaging luggage and carries it throughout the hotel to all of the guests rooms.

Cytoplasm

The cytoplasm is like the air in the hotel. It fills up the space that is not occupied and provides for movement. It also keeps the "organelles" in place and keeps everything supplied.
