Coaxial Cable

advantages&disadvantages

Advantages:

  • lower error rates

  • Greater spacing between amplifiers coaxial cable

  • reduces noise and crosstalk, which means amplifiers can be spaced farther apart than with twisted pair.

Disadvantages:

  • more expensive to install compare to twisted pair cable.

  • the thicker the cable, the more difficult to work with.

Definition:

Coaxial cable is the kind of copper cable used by cable TV companies between the community antenna and user homes and businesses.

A strong thick rope, usually of twisted hemp or steel wire.

Definition:

  • A twisted pair cable is a type of cable made by putting two separate insulated wires together in a twisted pattern and running them parallel to each other.

Advantages:

  • less suceptible to electrical interference caused by nearby equipment or wires.

Disadvantages:

  • STP is more difficult to connect to a terminating block.

Types:

  • UTP , F/UTP F/FTP, SF/UTP S/FTP

Advantages:

  • system performance

greatly increased bandwidth and capacity

  • less restrictive in harsh environments

  • overall system economy

  • Fiber optic cables are much thinner and lighter than metal wires.

Disadvantages:

  • fiber optic component are expensive

  • the lack of standardization in the industry has also limited the acceptance of fiber optics.
