1. Dev. Lab time - 2 hours every Thursday. Teacher is giving up instructional time to make this happen. Developer virtually visits the space to work with kids. Usually use 'stations' format.

2. Edit Lab 1 hour every Friday. We record our podcast, learn to edit audio, work on character art or storyboards, anything short of coding.

3. - I keep up with the principal, teacher and more. I work with the partners to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that we all know what is happening

This is really a key example of a library identifying a community need and stepping up to fill that need

What we are teaching here are 21st century skills - the ability to create interactive content. Regardless of exact medium, that will serve these kids well.

There is a decent amount of analysis behind the particular choices of this grant. We are fulfilling the library's strategic mission of enriching people's lives

What we did and why we did it

So: Why Share?

So, what did it look like?

Project Management

The second ambition of library game is to teach project management skills. The students are working cooperatively on one large project. They all need to work together and it is one large project made up of different components.

Podcasts - this is project management because the podcasts are not the product itself. They are the students thinking about their experiences and reflecting on what it means, where there are issues and how it applies to larger questions.

1. Storytelling

Students are learning to tell a story. They are making storyboards, writing scripts, creating characters and learning the parts of a plot.

Technology skills

The third part of this project is the technology skills. There is the machine thinking / logic parts, the actual coding and troubleshooting, but also working with files, file types and visual / audio data.

Why design a video game?

Answer: it is not really about the game. It is about the skills. The game means that there is interest, but what we really want is a chance to work on 21st century skills.
