If you practice what the gospel says in your daily life and feed your faith like you would nurture a mustard seed, it will grow and lead you to the Kingdom of God/heaven.
Your faith starts out small but as you practice it and believe it, it will grow like a mustard seed into a big tree, with strong foundations (roots). Faith begins to grow when you are a young child, you start growing and understanding your faith and through life experiences you learn more about the Gospel and grow like the mustard tree grows.
This parable is also saying that ‘The Kingdom of God’ is more than just Heaven; it is a Kingdom composed of everyone who acknowledges God’s rule in their hearts. This Kingdom has to be first created within us if we were to be a part of that kingdom. This kingdom is created within us by His message of Gospel /bible.
I hope you now have a better understanding of this parable and how it relates to the Kingdom of God!
I relate the parable to modern society and to my community through these actions in my life, in which I grow my faith like a mustard seed by feeding it with the Gospel;
In my community, I attend a Catholic school which teaches me Religion and the Gospel in my lessons. My school worships as a community through liturgy’s and the school ‘gong’ which is when we take time out of our day to listen and reflect on a reading from the Holy Gospel.
In the wider community, my family and I attend Church too listen to the Gospel’s morals and messages that we apply in our lives.
From my own personal practices, I pray at home and grow in my understanding of my faith and communicate with God.
These examples shows that in society there are opportunities for people to learn and feed their faith through the Gospels and by practicing it through their lives they will grow their faith into a strong mustard tree which will help them reach the Kingdom of heaven.
I believe the mustard seed represents the Gospel and the Kingdom of God. Although at first the mustard seed is tiny, it can then grow into a large tree. Likewise, the Gospel and the Kingdom of God starts out very small but can grow to reach millions of people throughout the world. The word of God grows and spreads like the roots and branches of the tree, which becomes a refuge, referring to ‘the birds in its branches'.
