Boron
- Used in North America for the control of cockroaches, silverfish, ants, fleas and other insects.
- Used in fibre optics research.
- Show promise in treating arthritis.
- The hydrides are sometimes used for rocket fuels.
Gallium
The boron group is like the mafia because the mafia is really calm but can be very violent.
- Wets glass of porcelain.
- Forms a mirror when painted on glass.
- Use in high temperature thermometers.
- Liquid gallium could be used to cool.
Indium
- Photocells.
- Used in solders.
- Used to make low melting alloys.
- Plated on to metal and evaporated onto glass.
An alloy is a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements.
- Group contains one metalloid and four metals.
- Their solids at room temperature.
- The boron group is reactive but not as reactive as Alkali metals.
- Have biological roles in the ecosystem.
- The melting point of all the metals are high.
Thallium
- Used in rat and ant poisons.
- Detecting infrared radiation and heart muscle research.
- Production of high density glasses.
- Used in thermometers for low temperature.
Aluminum
- Cans and foils.
- Kitchen utensils.
- Outside building decoration.
- Construction of modern aircraft and rockets.
