Washington and his troops suffered a terrible winter.
The lacked decent food, clothing, shelter, and medicine.
Snowstorms and damaged roads slowed the delivery of supplies.
The American Congress
ratified the first draft of the treaty in April 1783.
The final treaty of Paris was signed on September 3rd 1783.

The British plan had failed.
United States
They fought for Britian and the
British people relied on them.
Americans called these mercenaries
"Hessians" after the region in
Germany from which most of them came from.
The Americans also lured the
Hessians away with promises of
land.
Some Americans remained loyal to Britan.
Others , such as QUAKERS , were neutral.
They would not take part in the war because they opposed all armed conflict.

Spain did not form an alliance with the U.S.
Spain forces faught the Briish in present day Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.
People in the U.S did not learn about the French-American allaince until spring.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko was one of
the polish men that helped on the
battlefield.
He helped build important defenses for America.
He volunteered to work for the Patriot cause.
Inflation
They held some advantages in the war.
They where fighting on their own ground and knew where to go.
Thier greatest advantage was thier leader George
Washington.
Meanwhile, the French fleet kept guard at Chesapeake Bay.
They were unable to help Cornwallis.
The Bitish were trapped and where forced to surrender.
Hit And Run Tactics

The British had counted on strong loyalist support but recived less help than expected.
Small forces of Patriots attacked them and this hit and run technique caught the British off gaurd.
A hit and run is a suprise attack
The amount of bills was greater
than the supply of gold and silver backing them.
This led to Inflation which means that it took more and more money to by the same amount of goods.
People began to have doubts about how much paper bills were worth.
Loyalist
They are the people that
are loyal to Britian.
At least one in five americans was taught to be a loyalist.
Support from them varied
region to region.
He was a Patriot.
He showed his bravery at Long
Island and disguised himself as a Dutch school teacher and spied on the British troops.
Sadly, the British caught Hale
and hanged him.

Foriegners
On December 4th Washington said farwell to his troops as they went home.
In late November 1783 the war truly ended.
He returned home to Mount Vernon Virgina.
Foriegners helped the Patriots on the battlefield.
Marguis De Lafeyette of France had come to the U.S as a 19 years old .
Another foriegner neamed Kosciuszku helped build imported defense.
He was a conial leader.
He wanted to have a long and bloody war.
Not alot of people agreed with him.
Strategy
The ships were heading toward Chesapeake Bay instead of New York.
They were going to join the fight to defeat Cornwallis.
Washington quickly changed his plans and kept his new strategy a secret.
Early Campaigns
Few soldiers fought in the wars early battles.
Bunker Hill for example about 2200 British soldiers fought 1200 Americans.
The British had not yet won a clear victory and they relised they want to be on top.

The Patriots lost war against the Britian.
They fought hard on Long Island, but could not over come the larger and better equipped British army.
Patriots had 20000 people fighting but the British out numbered them.
Continental Army
They had a hard time finding officers.
Most soldiers only signed up for a year.
The best officers had expirence from previous, or earlier wars.
African American
British
An all AFRICAN AMERICAN raised in Rhode Island regiment in 1778.
Many 5000 AFRICAN AMERICANS joined the Patriots.
The growing need for soldiers led some states to ignore the ban on AFRICAN AMERICANS.
BRITISH seemed to have a big advantage as the war began.
They had the strongest navy in the world and a well trained army.
They where also supported by the wealth of thier empire
BRITIAN also had more people, 8 million to be exact.
