Geometry in Our Daily Lives

Intersection

  • A place where two separate lines cross but then they never meet again

Point

  • An exact location
  • A point has no size only position

Square

Reflection

  • A square is a polygon with 4 identical sides and 4 angles

Acute Angle

Right Angle

Adjacent Angles

  • A reflection is a flip over an imaginary line
  • An angle that is exactly 90°
  • An angle that measures greater than 0 and less 90°

Ray

My laptop charger is something I use

everyday, it is in the shape of a square.

Line

Straight Angle

  • Two angles that do not intersect but share a vertex

  • A part of a line starting at a particular point and extends one direction forever
  • A line is a straight path that goes on forever

I see adjacent angles in post and

architecture all the time.

  • An angle that is exactly 180°

Parallel Lines

Rectangle

  • Two lines that never intersect
  • Polygon with 2 pairs of parallel lines, one pair longer than the other

Rectangle

Supplementary Angle

Rotation

Complementary Angle

  • A quadrilateral with four congruent angles which are all 90°.
  • Circling around a center, the distance from the center of any point on the shape stays the same.
  • 2 sides are short and 2 sides are long
  • Two acute angles that add up

to 90

  • Two angles that add up to 180°, making a straight line

A part of my life revolves around volleyball so when I read parallel line, I thought of a volleyball net. he top and bottom of the net are parallel to each other.

I read almost everyday, I tend to hold my book at a 90 degree angle. This reminded me of when I turn the page and make 2 acute angles which makes a 90

degree angle.

On my way to the mall I have to pass through a road that looks like a supplementary angle

Perpendicular Lines

Translation

  • Two lines that cross and make a 90° angle
  • When a geometric figure moves to one place to another without changing in size

Angles

Obtuse angles are very common in architecture especially several American Homes

  • A line or ray that cuts through a line segment

Angle that is more than 90 degrees but

less than 180 degrees

Two rays that share the same endpoint

Segment Bisector

Obtuse Angle

Angles are in all over the place!

Most glass paintings have lines that divide the angles, just like this painting.

  • A line that divides an angle in half

Angle Bisector

Coplanar Lines

Lines that lie on the same

plane

Coplanar Points

Points that lie on the same plane

Rhombus

A polygon with 4 of the same angles

and sides in the shape of a diamond

I see road signs all the time and a lot of them are rhombuses
