Machismo culture includes the set of behaviors and rules of conduct that are inculcated into boys by our society as being strong, tough and independent, showing no emotion The idea of machismo only supports this through a cultural perspective. The Chicano male who is acts like a macho in the wrong ways is preventing from growing as a whole in todays society.
Main Characteristic of A Macho
- can be negative for a Chicano if it is used to abuse women.
- The negative machismo mindset that some men had towards the Chicana Feminist movement has affected the movement negatively.
- Most of these Chicano men who used the negative machismo during the Chicana Feminist movement believed that it was the women’s job to always cook, clean, and take care of the children, and not have a voice in the Chicano movement.

- Each macho must show that he is masculine, strong, and physically powerful.
- Fights, verbal or physical abuse, or challenges must be met with fists or other weapons.
- A real macho shouldn't be afraid of anything, and he should be able to drink a large amount of liquor without actually getting drunk.

- Machismo is seen as an exlusive Mexican value, encouraged by parental anxiety for the males in the family to show manliness, having strength, honor, and courage.

- An example of that would be a man who refuses to take days off from work because he needs to pay bills, put food on the table for his family, and for his family’s well being.
- A man can carry a lot of that with pride.
- Machismo actions like that can push other people in the family both males and females to have the same or similar work ethic in life.

- It is commonly said that men, particularly men of color, tend to be abusive, controlling and violent toward women and children. These characteristics are often said to be typical in our society, or chicano culture.
- In Latin America, the word "macho" simply means male, and a true man is someone who carries respect, responsibility and honor.
