Conclusion

In conclusion, Magnesium is a very important mineral for us.

We can find it all over the place; in cars, in food......

Where can we can find Magnesium?

  • In many foods
  • In seawater
  • Car seats
  • Flares, Fireworks and sparklers
  • Laptops
  • Cameras
  • In the Earth's crust
  • Power tools
  • In the minerals magnesite and dolomite

Magnesium is in more than 300 enzyme systems in our bodies. These systems regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body.

These reactions include protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation

Magnesium in our bodies

  • Magnesium is an extremeley important mineral in our body as it is required for the proper working of some enzymes
  • The average adult should consume at least 0.3g of magnesium a day
  • Magnesium is also required for energy production, glycosis and oxidative phosphorylation

1808-1833

In 1808, nearly 200 years after the discovery of magnesium, Sir Humphrey Davy, isolated it.

Then in 1833, Michael Faraday, made Magnesium metal through electrolysis of fused anhydrous magnesium chloride.

1755

In 1755 Joseph Black recognized Magnesium as an element.

Jospeph black was a Scottish physician and chemist. He was born in France on April 26th 1728 and died in Edinburugh, Scotland on December 6th 1799.

A brief history of Magnesium

1618

In 1618, a farmer called Henry Wicker who lived in Epsom England, attempted to give his cows water from a well, but the cows didn't want to drink the water because of the bitter taste.

However Wicker noticed that the epsom salt healed cuts and wounds, this sold later became known as, magnesium sulphate, MgSO4
