Definition: Hormone compound that is made by the body in response to pain or extreme physical exertion. Similar to opiate drugs. They are responsible for the so-called runner's high, and release of these essential compounds permits humans to endure childbirth, accidents, and strenuous activities.

Definition: A hormone made in the brain that plays a role in childbirth and lactation by causing muscles to contractin the uturus (womb) and the mammary glads in the breast.

It is a peptide (compound consisting of 2 or more amino acids) that is secreted by the hypothalamus transported to the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland at the base of the skull.
