1910s
-OT begins in Canada as part of psychiatry and rehabilitation medicine
-early influences inspired partly by social movements such as Arts and Crafts Movement, the Settlement House movement and Mental Hygiene movement.
-OTs used in military hospitals post-WWI as part of the Department of Soldiers' Civil Reestablishment (SCR)
-occupational therapy used for physical and mental reconstruction of veterans and to allow them back into occupation
-the first graduating class for “occupation aides” graduates in 1918 at the University of Toronto
1850s-1890s
-occupational therapy finds its roots in the mid 19th century in asylums and poorhouses in England and France
1900s
-occupation aides and occupation workers became common in Canada
-helped people look after themselves and promote health, allowing them to do daily activities such as cooking, cleaning and bathing
