There are many famous Dominicans across the world, most are known for their athletic careers like baseball or basketball. There are also many famous actresses/actors and models. Examples are Dascha Polanco and Aimee Carrero.

Dascha Polanco, 33, is an actress who grew up in Miami and Brooklyn after moving from the Domincan Republic when she was a child. Dascha is well known for her role in one of Netflix's original shows, Orange is the New Black. Dascha is mother to 2 children whose names are Aryam and Dasany. She also starred in

Gimme Shelter (2013) and The Cobbler (2014).

Aimee Carrero, 27, was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and she later grew up in Miami, Florida. She is known for her role in the ABC Family show, Young & Hungry. Aimee also appeared in Greek, Hannah Montana, Baby Daddy, and

The Menalist. Carrero starred

in a lot more shows.

The typical music in the Dominican Republic is influenced by the West African traditions, European and Taino influences. Some popular forms of music are bachata and merengue.Some other genres are salve which can be sung acapella or with African instruments. Also gaga which is a genre of music tied to the Haitian-Dominican societies.

Most of the holidays celebrated in the U.S. are also celebrated in the Domincan Republic. Just like Holy Week, Easter Sunday, Christmas, and New Year's Day. They also celebrate Dia de los Reyes (Jan. 6), Nuestra Señora de la Alta Gracia (Jan. 21), their Independence Day (Feb. 27), Corpus Christi (May 26), and Carnaval (most of February).

The Dominican Republic is located in the heart of the Carribean on the island of Hispaniola. The island itself is enclosed by the Carribean Sea in the south and the Atlantic Ocean in the north.

Los Tres Golpes is a staple in Dominican cuisine. This traditional dish is made up of fried eggs, fried salami, fried cheese, mangú, and sometimes fresh avocado and sausage.

This is tender goat meat mostly eaten in the Northwest region of the island.

Croquetas are usually eaten hors d'oeuvres or snacks on the street. They are filled with chicken.
