Impersonal Expressions

How to Use the Present Subjunctive

They are normally a form of essere and an adjective that does not have a subject

Per esempio:

It is important to study.

È importante studiare.

Once you add a subject:

It is important that you study.

È importante che tu studi.

The impersonal expression plus the subject for the second verb triggers the use of the present subjunctive

  • W.E.I.R.D.O.
  • Wishes/Wants, Emotions, Impersonal expressions, Recommendations, Doubts, and Opinions

  • The second verb uses the subjunctive mood.
  • The two verbs are separated by "che" which means "that"
  • I think that she is pretty.
  • Io penso che lei sia bella.
