  • connects inner self to outer environment
  • at each stage you face different challenges and choices that make you who you are
  • stage 4 and stage 5 focus on adolescence
  • invested in and obtaining the approval of groups
  • black and white thinking
  • starts to develop sense of where they belong within the group as an individual

  • ego grows and changes as you grow up and go through different stages of life
  • in adolescence the values you grew up with are challenged and you have to discover your own values while being influenced by your outer environment
  • the theory helps better understand the struggles each person goes through at each age group
