Crucifix

Pews

The Crucifix is a must in a Catholic Church, it symbolizes that Jesus died on the cross for us, even though it means he died. According to the Catholic Catechism, the crucifix is a '' sacred sign''. A Crucifix is a cross with a carved figure of Christ on it.

One of the ways the Crucifix is used is Catholics believe that gazing at the Crucifix during prayer will help encourage feelings for hope, love and trust. INRI on the top of the cross means 'Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews'.The letters INRI are Latin and the meaning is English. The Chi Rho and the fish is a symbol to represent Jesus.

Chalice

Sacristy

Tabernacle

Lecturn

Pews are the long seats with a back on them and every Church normally has them. The pews have a knee rest for praying after you have the Eucharist and they have a little pocket in the front where you can put your Bible or your papers in them. The long pews are good because they fit lots of people on them.

A Chalice is something you need to have a Eucharist because it carries the blood(wine and water) of Christ. The Chalice is usually gold or silver but sometimes can be carved out of wood. Before the wine goes into the Chalice the priest or the father has to bless it along with the body of Christ.

The Sacristy is a room at the front of the Church behind the altar. It's where the Fathers and the Priests keep their vestments and other Church furnishings. But some other Churches have the room in a separate building.

The Tabernacle is where the Body of Christ is kept. In a mass you might have seen the ministers put the gold dish were the body is kept back in the Tabernacle and it will be locked up until they need it for the next mass. It is a very important part of the Church and we have to respect it whenever we go into a church. The Tabernacle is normally gold and sits at the front of the Church.

A Lecturn is where the Priest or the Father reads the Bible. It is usually placed at the front of the Church where the mass takes place. People who talk in the masses or do Prayers of the Faithful go up there to talk as well. The Lecturn is usually made of wood and sometimes it has carvings on it. You can find a Lecturn in places that people have to say a speech, Schools, on t.v , when the Prime Minister speaks on t.v and when schools have speeches sometimes.

The Paten

REFLECTION

Nave

The Paten is what the Body of Christ goes in when we are having Mass. First the bread gets blessed then the ministers and the Father hand it out to everyone. When the mass is finished the Paten gets put into the Sacristy. The Paten is normally silver or gold.

The processional cross is a cross put on a long stick. It is carried at the head of the procession. Being on a longer stick means that it is easer to see the cross if your're far away. Some of them have designs on them and some don't but they are normally all different. Sancta Maria uses one at a full school mass normally.

I found it interesting learning about everything that is in a Church. At the beginning of this I knew some things that were in a Church but when I was finding everything I learnt something new like the sacristy, pews, tabernacle and baptisimal font. Next time I would know everything I am going to research about instead of trying to find them when I could be finding information. I now know the inportance of the things in a Church and to always respect them. My favourite slide was the 14 stations of the cross, beacuse I found it interesting what he was going through and what he did for us. The station that I like the most was the part when he dropped his cross three times because everyone was helping him and he wasn't alone in that time.

The nave is a long and narrow part of the Church. The nave is also an extention to the Churches entrance.

Paschal Candle

The 14 stations of the cross show the journey that Jesus took to die for us. The part that I like the most is the part when he drops the cross three times bcause it shows that he didn't give up. Also I like that everyone that was there helped him do it and made him feel like he was not carrying it alone.

The Bible is something every Church should have because without it, it wouldn't be a Church . The bible is special to the Church because it tells Jesus' life and the battles he had when he was alive. It teaches us lessons for everyday, when the Father or the Priest reads them to us in mass. When we hear these stories it helps us understand what he was going through when he was alive. In the old testament there are 929 chapters and in the new testament there are 260 chapters. All together there are 1189 chapters in the Bible.

This candle normally sits on top of the Altar and is a tall white candle. The candle is used in mass, funerals, at Easter, for First Holy Communion etc.

The baptisimal font is a basin or vase. It serves as a receptical for the Holy Water in which the candidate for baptisim is immersed, or over which he is washed. This is done in the ceremony of Christian initiation. The basin can be stone wood or metal.

The Font for the Holy Water is located at the entrance to the Church where you enter for mass. The water is in a bowl made of concrete wood or cement. When you enter you dip your finger in the water and make the Sign of the Cross on your body with the water.

Altar Servers' changing room

The Altar is something you need to have the Euachrist because the Father or the Priest has to bless the body and blood of Christ on the Altar. The Altar is usually placed at the front of the Church where the Priest or Father sits or stands. The Altar is special to the Church because It's where the Eucharist gets blessed. The Altar also has candles on it when a mass is happening .

The Cry Room is a space designed for infants, babies and children to go if they are disturbing others or they can go in there if they want some alone time. But It is not only found in Churchs, it's found in cinemas and theatres. To have a cry room in a church it allows other people to get some privacy when they are in the church or are in the middle of mass.

This is a room where the Priest gets changed before and after the mass. The Priest wears a vestment. This is what he gets changed into in the Altar Servers changing room.
