The system includes goal-setting with students in individual conferences, posting of goals on a whole-class board, developing small group instruction based on clusters of students with similar goals, and targeting whole-class instruction based on emerging student needs and fine tuning one on one conferring.

Just like reading, the best way to become a better writer is to practice writing each day.

*Use this time to continue the work they have been doing during writer's workshop.

*The main difference is that during the workshop we may ask students to produce a piece of writing based on a strategy or genre being taught, but during the Daily 5 it is sustained writing of their choice.
