Autism is known in the medical field as autism spectrum disorder.
It is a very widespread disorder that branches into five main categories: Autistic Disorder, Asperger’s Disorder, Child Disintegrative Disorder, Rett`s Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder (not otherwise specified). The two prominent disorders are Autistic Disorder and Asperger’s Disorder which both have sub categories.
This disease affects every one in every 88 people. (2011)
There are many false perceptions of autism; people believe that those affected with autism are less capable of social cognition and therefore cannot learn easily and cannot express themselves. This is not true, although they have challenges with interacting with others they are highly capable of learning and talking for themselves.
