GOAL:
Determine what you would like to achieve
Examples:
- Improve on or build a new skill (ART: shading with pencil REAL LIFE: getting a job)
- Understanding your current abilities and potential (reflecting on your past experiences and motivation)
- Communicating a concept (ART: thematic narrative. REAL LIFE: writing a resume)
Research what you need to know in order to learn what you want:
- Art: Art history, artist inspirations, instructional videos/notes, past experiences, teacher demonstrations.
- Real life: Who is hiring? What experience do you need? How to apply? Location? Schedule? Transportation?
GOAL:
Plan and decide what you will do to address the inquiry
Examples:
- Refine your skills through practice (ART: sketch multiple ideas. REAL LIFE: job training)
- Expand and deepen your ideas (combine your concepts, open to all possibilities)
- Use your resources (brainstorm with peers, networking)
NOW make decisions to move forward:
What is your concept after your inquiry?
How did you refine your ideas?
Prepare...
What materials do you need in order to create?
GOAL:
Apply what you have learned through research, skill practice, and designing. Create an artwork that communicates your idea effectively.
- Use your research and skills
- Take creative risks. Try new things. Experiment.
- Create to communicate your concept.
- Craftsmanship: Best work, best ability, and best use of time.
- Seek feedback throughout the creation of your artwork.
Art: CREATE! Real Life: WORK!
GOAL:
Assess your artwork and decide if you need to move back into the creative process to complete the art.
Reflect on your own learning, and collaborate with others to receive honest and helpful feedback.
NOW make decisions to move forward:
Is your artwork complete?
Can it be improved? How?
Did you accomplish your goal?
Did you apply what you learned?
How will you use these skills in the future?

Why Creative Thinking?
it is important to do not stick with one idea or view
Encouraging yourself to be creative comes in handy when creating works of art and literature. But creative thinking can help you explore areas you do not normally go to.
Creative Process
Throughout this semester, we will be exploring our ideas through the creative process.
The creative process can be applied to many, if not all, areas of your life.
Let's get to it!
The reality is, that creative problem solving seems to be straight forward, but when dealing with actual challenges that are not so easy to solve, the methodical processes do not help you explore when you are stuck.
Although some of us are more naturally open to new ideas and able to put them to innovative uses, we are all able to use our creative thinking to apply when trying to reach our goals or overcome obstacles.
Whether creativity comes naturally or not, favorable conditions can be put in to play to help with the creative thinking and spark inspiration.
THE BIG TAKEAWAY
You can use the creative process (Inquiry, Design, Create, Evaluate)
in many areas of life!
Making art? Job search? Travel plans? Fixing something broken? Renting or buying a home? Applying to a college?
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
