What You'll Learn

Jigsaw

  • Design principles
  • Color theory (just a rehash)
  • Color management
  • Photoshop: understanding vector and bitmap graphics, using swatches, painting, drawing lines, drawing and modifying shapes, creating vector masks, using selection tools, adding text to images, outputting for web, print and video
  • Illustrator: creating vector artwork, using Image Trace to convert photos to vector, artwork, drawing lines, painting, drawing and modifying shapes, using gradients
  • I am going to assign each of you a design principle to learn about.
  • You will research what the design principle is and write a short definition and explanation of the principle. Also, find at least three logos that demonstrate that principle.
  • When you're done, I will put you in groups. Each group will have at least one person from each of the design principle groups.
  • Each person in the group will then teach the other group members about their design principle.
  • Everyone is responsible for taking notes and learning about each principle.

Summative Assessment

  • Students will plan, create, and build a logo for use in other publications, such as business cards, menus, or advertisements.

Essential Questions

  • How do companies use their logos to identify themselves and set up brands?
  • How does one use color theory and design principles to create logos?
