Johannes Kepler discovered the distances of the planets from the sun. When he was in university, he studied mainly theology and philosophy, but also mathematics and astronomy. Without his teacher, Maestlin, he would not have known about Copernican system.
Robert Hooke invented the reflecting telescope. He also came close to discovering the theory of gravity and movements of the planets, but the idea was afterwards developed by Isaac Newton.
Bartolomeo Cristafori designed the piano. The first time his creation was heard of was in a diary of Francesco Mannucci, a Medici court musician. In the diary, he wrote the word 'Arpicembalo' which means 'Harp-Harpsichord'. Sadly in Bartolomeo's day, there was no such thing as that word, so he called the piano an unknown word, but as the years past by, the name of the musical instrument slowly changed.
Isaac Newton discovered gravity and created the telescope. He also figured out the theory of colour based on his observations and invented a law of cooling and studied the speed if sound.
Anders Celsius created the Celsius temperature scake. He was the very first to study and create difficult experiments about the meaning of global temperature scale on scientific grounds.
Carl Linnaeus discovered animal and plant classification. In the 1740s, he was sent on a few journeys through Sweden to find and classify plants and animals. In the 1750s and 60s, he continued to collect and classify animals, plants, and minerals. At the time of his death, he was one of the most aaproved scientists in Europe.
Joseph de Montgolfier invented the hot air balloon. As a young boy, he was destined to become an inventor. His personality was of a inventor's, an individualist and a dreamer.
Alfred Nobel created dynamite and the Nobel Prize. The start of making the Nobel Prize were laid in 1895 when Alfred Nobel wrote his last will, leaving most of the wealth for its business. Since 1901, the prize has honoured men and women for terrific achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and for work in peace.
Alexander Bell designed the telephone. He was influenced by his father, grandfather and brother,who had worked on diction and speech, and his mother and wifer were both deaf.
John Baird invented the most famous creation of the 1920s, the television. Even though many other inventors made the tv to what it is now, John was the most famous pioneer who made major advances in the area. Mainly in Britain, many historians give credit to John for being the first to produce a love, moving, grayscale television imag from reflected light.
