  • The Sixth amendment was created to help enforce the criminal court procedures at the time.

The English monarchy had a left a long history of Government punishment and abuse:

  • TORTURE
  • And DEATH

Actually all Supreme Court cases are based off of our amendment because all court cases have a jury, a fast trial, a lawyer and a right for the prosecutor to defend himself.

Positive

  • SPEEDY TRIAL

  • RIGHT TO HAVE A LAWYER

NOT MUCH NEGATIVES

BUT ONE EXAMPLE WILL BE CONTRACDICTION OF AMENDMENT 13.

JURY DUTY BANS "INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE."

The 6th amendment is the backbone of the criminal legal system. It gives the criminal a speedy, public trial, a jury, lawyer, and a right and chance to defend him or herself in court. It protects us from immediate punishment and gives a fair chance to be proven innocent.

One example of a real life situation would be a teenager driving without a license, but driving around a closed parking lot. Someone can take them to court for driving without a license, but they will be able to have someone defend them and not be immediately accused.

Another example could be a teenager downloading songs off the internet and doesn't keep in mind that records are being kept. Then the teenager lets other people download and suddenly someone decides to tell. The teenager can argue that he wasn't the one downloading.
