The Effects of Homeschooling on Children

Consequences:

Reasons of Parents

  • Home schooling consumes a lot of the parent's time and energy. 24/7 no rest.
  • Parents homeschool their children because of the values, academics, religion, behavior, and socialization they want to instill in their children
  • Parents of the children did not want their children to be influenced by a religion they don't believe in
  • They were unhappy with the public school system
  • People in the homeschool have to deal with negative comments from ill-informed people or people who have never been homeschooled.
  • Lack of access to sports

Benefits of homeschooling

Scope and Limitations

Homeschooling also known as home education is the education of children inside the home, as opposed to the formal settings of a public or private school. It is usually conducted by a parent or tutor. Many families which start out with a formal school structure at home often switch to less formal and in their view, more effective ways of delivering education of school, and many prefer the term “homeschooling” to the more prevalently used “homeschooling”.

The children played an important role as active members in the life of their families. The mismatch of a home-educated child with school survival skills appeared to lead to problems and vice versa.

The conclusions drawn that judgments made on home-educated children by comparing them with norms, are likely to be misleading. Home-educated children have different needs and their parent’s different expectations for them. A home-educated child who is dependent upon being in a group may be a difficult child whilst a school going child who prefers his own company may likewise be deemed to have a problem. However, in the appropriate context, these children appear perfectly normal. A home-educated child needs, it seems, to be able to converse with adults, needs to be self-sufficient, responsible and reliable. Such a child needs to be able to appreciate time alone and make their own amusements.

This study shows the importance of applying homeschooling in some students, and to know the negative and positive side of homeschooling.

This study limits only to those chosen students in the department of Education in the English 2 during semi – final term.

  • An opportunity to be themselves

Homeschooling is viewed by many as a return to the roots of society, where family, community, religious institutions, and work were all integrated into daily lives. Homeschooling is becoming more popular every day, with a growth rate of 7 % to 15 % per year. There are about two million children currently learning at home. Home schooled kids do well on standardized tests, are welcome at colleges and universities, and as adults, have a reputation for being self – distracted learners and reliable employees.

  • Receives personal attention on a subject

Over the course of the research the reason why the children's academic prowess was not high on their parents' agendas became increasingly apparent. For the families there were far more significant and meaningful outcomes to home-education. These were children who were enjoying their childhood; their parents loved the company of their children and experiences were shared. Children were involved in activities that were meaningful to them. The families were living a life of their choosing, creating not just an education for their children but a congenial lifestyle for their family. This is not to say that parents did not find it hard and at times stressful to home-educate. Overall, the message conveyed was that for these families home-education was not about educating children at home rather than at school: it was about a lifestyle decision.
