  • because the last founding member died

  • two thousand years ago the Celts arrived in Ireland and brought the music with them
  • since the 17. Century people tried to escape from poverty of Ireland to America
  • in the 18th Century instruments were added to the acapella songs
  • in the 19. Century there were also English texts

History

  • first festival was 2001
  • the biggest Irish folk festival on Schleswig-Holstein
  • one of the biggest Irish folk festivals in Germany
  • sold off in 5 to 10 hours
  • about 7.500 persons
  • something to eat from everywhere in the world
  • last festival is on 13th june 2015
  • the Sally Gardens and Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Fleadh Cheoil Festival

  • biggest traditional Irish music festival on the earth
  • it changes every year where the festival takes place
  • can reach attendances of 400,000 over the course of nine eventful days
  • a competition for amateur musicians
  • more than 400 different events took place, and in excess of 6,000 musicians took part in

  • because of the great famine 1860 one million people died
  • the immigrants brought the ballads, laments and other traditions to big cities
  • so Irish music spread out
  • 1972 the song "The Men Behind the Wire" was 5 weeks number one on the Irish hitlist

Tin Whistle

• has only 6 holes

• Tin Whistle means something like “iron sheet pipe”

• easy to learn

• an instrument from the British isles

• high, bright and clearly sound

• Robert Clarke was the first industrial producer

• produced the Tin Whistle in Manchester 1843

• rambler brought the Tin Whistle to Ireland

• since 1843 the tin whistles have nearly the same construction method

without ornamentation

  • the name originates because you play it with your elbow
  • Uileann means elbow
  • the pipes were the resultant of the submission of the Irishmen
  • it was forbidden to play on a pipe so they made a more quietly pipe
  • the sound of the pipes are tender and soft
  • 2.500€ to 6.000€.

• is identical with the violin, but it's played different in the different styles

• shows up in Ireland about the seventeenth century

• have a very bold and uplifting sound

• easier to play than classic Fiddle

• less stylistic means like vibrato (tone pitch stagger, gets higher and deeper wavelike)

• in this fiddle tradition ornamentation is necessary

• it’s the fiddlers exercise to create a ornamented and rhythmic version
