Boserup's Theory
Conclusion
I believe Boserups theory is not Utilized
to the maximum because it should be
used in more third world contries not
just on the western hemisphere.
Ester Boserup was born May 18, 1910, and died September 24, 1999. Boserup came up with the idea that agriculture methods depend on the size of the population.
She stated that as population increases, more pressure is put on the existing agriculture system, this stimulates invention.
In the Malthusian view, in times when food is not sufficient for everyone, the excess population will die. However, Boserup argued that in those times of pressure, people will find ways to increase the production of food by increasing workforce, machinery, fertilizers, etc.
Boserup Theories
What are GM crops
Genetically modified crops, these are crops that are
derived from genetically modified organisims.
-How they are produced:
-Identify the organism with correct characteristics
-Remove the gene that produces the protein
-Transfer gene into the plant you want to protect
-Grows into full size healthy plant
-In maize it can help protect against stem bore
-Genes can be changed instead to help plant grow
better.
-Not legal in all contries still has to be approved.
How this relates to Boserup.
Evidence of this theory is present in developed nations, because as the population increases society adapts to the growing demand of resources. This is proven by the development of GM crops as identified in the previous slide.
Nations who would have experienced famine due to their high populations have found new ways to adapt and manufacture resources that will sustain an abundant food supply for many generations to come.
GM crops are now manufactured over many Nations helping to contribute to the economy.
