DAISY:

MYRTLE

  • Old money
  • Soft, Gentle
  • Very romantic language used to describe her. Ex: ‘It was the kind of voice that the ear follows up and down as if each speech is an arrangement of notes that will never be played again. • Her personality is revealed very slowly.
  • Tries to pass the buck to someone else.
  • Description focuses on voice, mannerisms and charm.
  • 'No money'
  • Tacky, brassy, fake.
  • Introduced right after the Valley of Ashes.
  • Description focuses more on physical appearance.
  • Tries to pursue her dreams.

VALLEY OF ASHES:

-By Chavi Sahai

  • 'About half way between West Egg and New York the motor-road hastily joins the railroad and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile, so as to shrink away from a certain desolate area of land.'
