Understanding computer programming
Using mathematics to solve technical or scientific problems
Secondary aspects: Learning how machines work
Understanding technical drawings and diagrams
Understanding the scientific uses and properties of materials
Other aspects: Presenting ideas and information in writing
Controlling or adjusting technical equipment
Explaining ideas and information to people
Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop, test, and oversee the installation of computer hardware.
So Hardware engineers need to have an expert understanding of the way all parts of a computer work, as well as the scientific properties of the materials used to build them.
When they are faced with a new challenge, engineers first analyze the requirements for the piece of technology they are creating.
Once they understand the requirements, hardware engineers can design the new product.
After evaluating the success of their design, and making any necessary changes, engineers present it to their employer or client.
If the employer or client likes it, it goes out to shops for sale, if they dont the hardware engineer goes back and try's making it better
Most computer hardware engineers work for companies that manufacture computers, and parts of computers.
And hardware engineers work primarily in office or lab environments. Their workplaces are generally clean and comfortable places to work.
Earnings for computer hardware engineers vary depending on their level of education, their experience, and the type of position they hold.
Most computer hardware engineers earn a salary somewhere between $40,000 and $125,000 a year. The national average earnings for this career are likely somewhere between $65,000 and $90,000 a year. However, experienced engineers who advance to senior or supervisory positions can earn over $125,000 a year.
High school students interested in a career as a computer hardware engineer should excel in math and science courses, as well as English and computer studies. It is also a good idea to take electrical shop classes if they are available.
The minimum educational requirement for this career is a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. A degree in a closely related subject, such as electrical or electronics engineering, may also be acceptable if the program provides students with a good understanding of computer systems.
