By: Lexie Koch and

Period 4

1998

1903

In the Bronze Age

In 1903, manufacturers had discovered an easier version of the double edged razor that could be pressed out of high carbon steel.

Obsidian was sharpened and used as tools to shave beards.

Prehistoric Times

Ancient Egypt- 3000 B.C.

Mid 1800s

Mainly clam shells or shark teeth were used around this time period. Flint knives were used as early as 30,000 b.c.

Changes We Made

Around this time, William Henson had invented the first hoe-shaped razor.

Biodegradable products,

Easy to clean,

Shaving cream cartridge,

The handle would be flexible when applying pressure,

Wider blades/surface area.

Some archeologists have found solid copper/gold circular discs in old Egyptian tombs that they had used for shaving.

1960s

Modern Day

1928

Gillette had introduced a stainless steel blade that lasted longer and didn't rust.

The latest razor introduced by Gillette is a five-blade cartridge razor with an additional single blade for trimming.

Pace Shave is the first producer of six-blade cartridges.

There are also battery-operated razors that run on one AAA battery.

The first patented electric razor was designed by Jacob Schick. Fun fact: he believed people that shaved could live up to 120 years old. (The picture below is a prototype.)

1974

King Camp Gillette

He took the design that William Henson had used and turned it into a double edged razor.

The innovation that came next was the introduction of the Bic disposable razor. This new razor didn't just have disposable blades, it was designed for the whole razor to be disposable.
