Kahoot!

Double Circulation system

Red Blood cells

Oxygenated blood travels from the heart to the body

Deoxygenated blood travels from the body to the heart

Blood Cells

These are specialised cells designed to carry oxygen.

They have a shape which gives them a large surface area.

They contain a special substance called haemoglobin

They have no nucleus to give them more space to carry oxygen.

White Blood cells

Complete the wordsearch to find the keywords for today's lesson.

Body cells use oxygen and give blood CARBON DIOXIDE

Blood vessels

B

Oxygenated blood travels back to the heart

Blood is made of four parts:

Red blood cells

White blood cells

Platelets

Plasma

Blood picks up oxygen from the lungs and drops off carbon dioxide

Arteries carry blood away from the heart

Veins carry blood back to the heart

Capillaries are very small blood vessels that deliver blood to every cell

Blood cells are made inside your bones in an area called bone marrow

Learning Outcomes

C

A

I can explain changes to my heart rate (Level 5)

I can describe how blood is delivered to every cell (Level 6)

I can explain what a double circulation system is (Level 6)

Heart Rate

The heart

Oxygenated blood travels from the heart to the body

Deoxygenated blood travels from the body to the heart

F

D

Work in pairs or threes with people on your table

Measure your heart rate (how many beats in one minute)

Jump on the spot for one minute

Measure your heart rate again

Has it changed, why?

What do you notice about your breathing?

Write a couple of sentences in your book about why these differences happen.
