Did the Muckrakers have a positive effect of the progressive era?
Muckrakers had a positve effect on the progressive era. The muckrakers would let the public know everything that was going on behind closed doors. Muckrakers also opened the public's eyes to unsanitary slaughterhouses, poverty, unhealthy living conditions, and etc.
Muckrakers were Investigative Journalists. They exposed political, social, and economic problems to the American public. They also exposed big businesses. The muckrakers maintained their jobs by going into other jobs, as workers, to scoop up private information. Some muckrakers took pictures of the bad living and working conditions.
...You may recall the description of the man with the muck-rake, the man who could look no way but downward with the muck-rake in his hand; Who was offered a Celestial crown for his muck-rake, but who would neither look up or regard the crown he was offered but continued to rake to himself the filth of the floor. -Theordore Roosevelt
