Codes And Conventions Of A Magazine Front Cover

The title of the Magazine is the largest and boldest text on the page as its telling the reader what the Magazine is called. A black font has been used as there is a pale background which makes the black font stand out. Also, the title of a magazine is always one or two words. Magazine producers use this to keeps it short and sweet.

"Fashion for every figure" is a cover line that intrigues the reader which makes them want to find out more. As you can see, the cover line is only two lines long which is more likely to grab the readers eye. This cover line also contains alliteration to make it sound catchy and again, attracts the reader.

As you can see, the main image on the front cover is a celebrity who is directly addressing the reader. Magazine producers do this so that when the reader comes to buy the magazine, the magazine some how catches their eye and the readers feel instantly drawn in.

The bar code always appears on the front cover due to an advertisement on the back of the magazine.

Another code and convention of a magazine cover is the colour scheme. As you can see, the font is all the same apart from the title and the colours are blue and white along. The main cover image also relates to the colour scheme as the woman in the picture (Beyonce) is wearing a blue dress and all this relation can attract readers.

Also, Vogue have made clear that "Beyoncé" is the person on the main image by matching the font colour with the title of the magazine and putting the text near to her face. This way, the reader can tell who the main image is of and attracts them.

Alliteration has been used again to attract the audiences eye. "Longer legs, leaner lines and sexier silhouette" makes the target audience want to know more about this information.

Subsequently, magazines always tend to start their titles, catch-phrases, sub-headings and cover line from the top left hand side of the page. This is because when people read, the text starts from the top left corner and its always the first place people look.
