Collective Bargaining Agreements in
the U.S. Major Professional Sports Leagues
Collective Bargaining Agreement:
- CBA expired July 1st, 2011
- Players want a guaranteed 53% income
- Owners want 50-50 split
- 3% difference is $100 million per year
- Other issues: salary cap, luxury tax
- Games through the end of Nobember have been cancelled
- An agreement has not yet been reached
- negotiations between employers and representatives of employees aimed at reaching an agreement to regulate work conditions
- CBA expires December 11th, 2011
- Current 5-year agreement was signed in 2006
- Last lockout was in 1994
- Significant progress is being made for new CBA
- Major issue: some teams haveing trouble getting people in the stands, and making revenues into salaries
- Drug policies working
- Negotiations are going smoothly
- Revenue sharing: each team gives 31% of total revenue
- Then divided among the 30 teams
- CBA expired March 3rd, 2011
- New agreement was finalized August 4th, 2011
- Under the new agreement, the NFL will be the only major profesional sports league that uses blood testing for Human Growth Hormone (HGH)
