- It is a city in Hokkaido, Japan.
- In 1886, Kaitakushi Brewery became the Sapporo Beer Company which was named after the city of Sapporo, Japan.
- As of today, Sapporo is one of the leading breweries in Japan.
- Sapporo produces a wide variety of beers such as Yebisu, Yebisu Black, and Sapporo Reserve.

- In the 1870s, Norwegian-American businessman established the first brewery in Yokohama, Japan. This is known as today's Kirin.
- In 1876, Hokkaido's first brewery was established by Nagakawa Seibei which gave birth to the first Sapporo Lager.
- During the early 1900s, beer became the mainstream of Japanese drinking culture.
- This was the time period when the four major Japanese breweries-Sapporo, Asahi, Kirin and Suntory emerged.
