- For Percy Jackson, inside of the real world, he encountered a myriad of confronts in the "urban" city.

- Also, Percy suffers from a realistic issue of ADHD and dyslexia.

SUPPORTIVE FACTS/PARAPHRASES

"Superman was born on the planet Krypton. Superman's father, Jor-El, a Kryptonian scientist, foretells the destruction of the planet, but no one believes him," (Pop Culture Universe).

"After the quest he was betrayed by his friend Luke Castellan who revealed that he was in league with Kronos, " (Heroes Wikia).

"N3: Mr. Brunner hands Percy a ballpoint pen.

MR. BRUNNER: Take this to defend yourself. It's a weapon. Grover, take Percy to Camp Half Blood and don't let him out of your sight," (Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief).

"Percy: When things disappear in the Bermuda Triangle, this must be where they end up.

N2: They hear shouting.

Percy: It's Clarisse!

N1: They see her on the deck of an old warship," (PERCY JACKSON: Sea Of Monsters).

A hero in the Bronze Age usually had some sort of problem in their lives and in their world. And usually those problems connected with the readers'/viewers' issues.

Trials/ Dark Forces

"Bronze Age storylines typically centered on urban unrest and real-world issues such as illegal drug use, racism, poverty, and social injustice. Many heroes experienced the effects of these social problems on a personal level," (Bryant).

Allies

- After Luke sided with the evil force, many of Percy's quests were directly linked to the different aspects of the force.

-During a portion of Percy's quest (find golden fleece), he gets swallowed up by an enormous, unconscious monster. But during this time, he reunites with one of his friend, Clarisse.

Presents a Magical Weapon

-They have been separated in the beginning of the quest, but...

- The fact that Luke, one of Percy's many friends, abandons the safe haven of all demigods, "Camp Half-Blood", in return for power under the rule of a vengeful titan, Kronos, triggers the ongoing journey for Percy.

- ... he ends up being accompanied by Clarisse to complete the mission of obtaining the "golden fleece".

correlates to the "presented a weapon or magical gift from the mentor to guide the hero" aspect of the Hero's Journey.

A Hint of The Silver Age

- Mr. Brunner, Percy' mentor, immediately presents a ballpoint pen, which transforms into a fighting sword

- During the series, Percy experiences different trials/"dark forces".

- This action of bestowing Percy the "magical gift/weapon" that would help guide his journey

- The Percy Jackson Series itself is a combination of little bit of different ages of comic (superheroes).

In an Archetypal Hero's Journey, the protagonist meets allies, friends, and other helpful people who will support him/her [the protagonist] with his/her quest.

"N3: On the other side of the gate is Camp Half Blood. Grover shows Percy around," (Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief).

For an example, in one series he was trapped inside Tartarus, the Underworld, and in order to escape from it, he had to defeat the monstrous titans, who guarded the gate back into the upper, normal world.

Crossing the Threshold

#5 Crossing the Threshold

The fact that Percy Jackson was obligated to leave the world, due to the vicious monsters attacking him, it left him no choice but to accept the "call to adventure" and enter into the threshold, which is Camp Half-Blood. Entering the new environment filled with demigod like him triggers the beginning of all of his quests, journeys, and his new life that embraces his half-godly side.

Besides the ordinary, normal world, there is a safe haven situated near the actual world for only demigods to peacefully and safely reside/train their powers.

END OF ARCHETYPAL HERO'S JOURNEY RELATED REASONS.

"Annabeth: The Tunnel of Death?

N2: They enter a large cave.

N1: A huge Cyclops thuds toward them. He wears a cape. It is the golden fleece," (PERCY JACKSON: Sea Of Monsters).

Approach to the Inmost Cave

START OF OTHER TOPICS ABOUT:

- HEROIC QUALITIES

- OTHER SUPPORTIVE

EVIDENCE AS A HERO

- Percy Jackson, accompanied by some of his friends, traveled to the Island inhabited by Polyphemus and the Golden Fleece

- Their goal is to retrieve that fleece without being eaten up by the gruesome cyclops.

- They risked their lives just to enter the "inmost cave" to obtain the object that they journeyed to look for.

The Hero's Journey contains a part where the hero approaches a dangerous place where their object of quest is hidden ("Approach to the Inmost Cave").

RELATABLE ISSUES AS A HERO

"... he went off on his adventure with Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase," (Heroes Wikia).

"N2: The Fury drops Percy and flies through the ceiling, shattering the glass.

PERCY (shocked): Did Mrs. Dodds just turn into a flying, snarling, um, thing?

MR. BRUNNER (to Grover): They've found him. He's in danger," (Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief).

(cont...) Meeting the Mentors

In an Archetypal Hero's Journey: illustrates the unusual birth/origin and introduction of the protagonist/main character.

- Percy suffers from the disability to read properly and behave normally like a regular human being (ADHD and Dyslexia).

Call to Adventure/ Meeting the Mentor

Percy Jackson meets new people who eventually become his mentors and closest friends. His mentor, Grover Underwood, supports and also accompanies him on his upcoming quests, along with Annabeth Chase, his friend. Having a mentor and a friend for the long journey is an aspect of the Archetypal Hero's Journey. So therefore, Percy Jackson fulfills this area of the Hero's Journey

Threshold Crossing/ Ressurection

Percy's Birth/originality

#1: Unusual

Birth

Percy Jackson: born abnormally as half-god and half-human; his "Hero's Journey" sparks as the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians series," begin.

"N3: Percy and his best friend Grover go on a class field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. As Percy gets off the bus, he hears a voice.

POSEIDON: Be prepared. Everything is about to change.

PERCY (looking around): Huh? Grover, did you hear that?

GROVER: Hear what?" (Scholastic Scope 58.10).

Percy, who does not know he is a demigod at this point, encounters a Fury (flying monster) who threatens his life. After this incident, his mentor Mr. Brunner entitles the event as the initiation of his long journey, which corresponds to the "call to adventure" and "meeting the Mentor" aspects of the Hero's Journey.

Why does Percy Jackson Follow the Archetypal Hero's Journey?

Archetypal Hero's Birth= Percy Jackson's Birth

Within in the Hero's Journey, meeting the mentors is one of the many important aspects in that cycle.

However, due to those flaws in him, it forms a bridge between those readers who are able to relate to him- which creates a bond between the viewers and Percy Jackson.

The World of Common

"Percy began the story as a mischief twelve year old going from one boarding school to another. Although he was a demigod, he didn't know anything about the world or that his father was alive and a god until after going to Camp Half-Blood and being revealed as Poseidon's Son." (Heroes Wikia).

In the Hero's Journey... the Hero usually experiences an event that changes his whole life, which also can be considered as a call to adventure.

- In the first book of the Percy Jackson's series, the first scene shows the typical day of a regular teenager, riding a bus to visit a museum as a field trip.

- This obviously tried to portray Percy as a regular human being going to school.

- Additionally, the call to adventure is also partially hinted here.

Poseidon, his father who is a greek god, calls out to Percy to signal him of the future, upcoming events.

"N1: Percy grabs the pearls.

Persephone: You only have three? You need one pearl for each person, and there are four of you.

Grover: I will stay here.

Persephone: I'll*take good care Of him.

N2: Percy, Sally, and Annabeth take the pearls and escape," (PERCY JACKSON And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief).

- Percy had just completed his quest of stealing his mother out of Hades' Underworld.

As the hero is introduced in the story. The setting seems realistic and so ordinary/not special, according to the archetypal hero's journey.

Most of the time, viewers uphold Percy Jackson, throughout the novels (also movies), as a hero because of that relatable connection that they have.

"Grover: You guys, we rocked that quest!

Clarisse: My quest. But thanks for the help.

Luke: Actually, I'll take that.

N1: They spin around to see Luke, a demigod who has turned evil.

Percy: Why do you want the golden fleece?

N2: Luke rips the cover off a long golden casket.

Luke: To bring back Kronos, the father of the gods. With the fleece's help, he'll destroy Olympus," (PERCY Jackson's: Sea of Monsters).

The Road Back

-With Hades' temporal unconsciousness, and Percy and his friends only having three magical pearls to bring them back to the world, the shortage influences Grover to voluntarily stay behind.

- Percy experiences "urban unrest" when he encounters a violent attack from his math teacher. Not only is this the only example, but throughout the series, Percy faces minor attacks in both the city and in the mystical world.

- Percy precisely finishes the quest (brings back the golden fleece), but is stopped by Luke, one of his former friend who has turned and pledged his alligence to the DARK side.

- Luke demands for the golden fleece, under the dark supreme order of the powerful titan, Kronos, from Percy but ignores that order.

- Finally, the two friends and mom return home, using the magical pearls.

In the archetypal hero's journey, one of the stage is "the road back". This is where after the hero completes his/her mission, but again, dealts with another type of dark forces.

- This scene corresponds to the "the road back" aspect of the archetypal hero's journey.

Towards the end of an archetypal hero's journey, a hero must return back to his/her ordinary world, transformed/reborn as a new being with additional insights that enables the hero to return.

OTHER INFORMATION

CHARACTERISTICS OF A HERO

COURAGEOUS:

- battle with horrible beasts/monsters (ex: Polyphemus, Kronos, etc...).

HERO'S QUEST:

- it entails the series of steps from the archetypal hero's journey (elaborated in the previous section).

- quests focus on Percy Jackson fighting for peace in the normal world and the mythical realm.

LOYAL & DEVOTED:

- Percy would never sacrifice his friends for anything. An example is shown in one of the books of The Heroes of Olympus, when Annabeth was going to fall into the dark pit of Tartarus, Percy threw himself with her so that she wouldn't be lonely and unsafe down there.

TRAGIC FLAW:

- Percy's downfall and the cause of the repetitive cycle of the journeys, are an effect of his lack of prioritizing what is truly important to him.

- affects him by saving one thing at an event, while losing the other thing causes him to face another battle/challenge/quest in the near future.

THE END!

THAT'S IT FOR MY PREZI PRESENTATION!

I REALLY HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT AND COULD AGREE THAT PERCY JACKSON DOES FOLLOW THE ARCHETYPAL HERO'S JOURNEY= Percy Jackson is an Hero!!

Love Interest

- Percy Jackson fell in love with Annabeth Chase, one of his closest friend.

"She is also Percy Jackson's main love interest, in spite of their deity parent's disdain, and also his tutor and mentor," (Heroes Wikia).

CONNECTION BETWEEN SUPERMAN AND PERCY JACKSON

- Throughout the quests, she accompanies and advises him with knowledge.

- Along with Percy's "love interest" in Annabeth, her vast knowledge of countless things awes Percy every single time.

- This quote tells the extraordinary birth of Superman. His birth marks the start of his adventure.

- Similarly, Percy Jackson is abstrusely born with abstract parents: human mother and a greek god as father.

Such examples can be shown when he was attacked by his math teacher who transformed into a Fury (a vicious monster) in order to kill him.

A hero in the Bronze Age usually had some sort of problem in their lives and in their world. And usually those problems were relatable issues of the readers/viewers.

Building upon facts...

"He is the son of the sea god Poseidon and has been diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. Percy has been an outcast all his life...Mrs. Dodds: Percy's mean math teacher at Yancy Academy who despises him and on one field trip turns into a Fury and attacks him," (Heroes Wikia).
