I love being mexican or at least having a little bit (1/2) in me. My grandmother (Dora) was born in Mexico. She later then raised her kids in New mexico because she disliked the living conditions of housing in Mexico. My grandmother had 14 brothers and 14 sisters. I like this 1/2 of me because my dad's side is very quiet, calm and collective
I find this topic interesting because my mom is puerto rican and my dad is mexican in my household there is a lot of diffrent things going on, food wise, culture wise, but mostly music wise. I find my ethnicity/ culture being very interesting because in the spanish culture you rarely see mexicans and puerto ricans getting married.
The music of Mexico is very diverse and features a wide range of musical genres and performance styles. It has been influenced by a variety of cultures, most notably indigenous Mexican and European, since the Late Middle Ages.
some info from my dad:
Many traditional Mexican songs are well-known worldwide, including Bésame Mucho (Kiss Me a Lot), Huapango, La Bamba (The Bamba), Solamente una vez (English version "You Belong to My Heart"), La Bikina (The Bikina), Cielito Lindo (Beautiful Sweetheart), Somos Novios (We Are Lovers; English version "It's Impossible"), El Rey (The King), María Bonita (Pretty María), México Lindo y Querido (Beautiful, Beloved Mexico), Pelea de gallos (La feria de San Marcos), Enamorada (In Love). La Cucaracha (The Cockroach), although popularized during the Mexican Revolution, is a Mexican corrido.
On my moms side el gran combo is a big deal, it is very interesting to compare the two cultures music because the spanish is so much diffrent. Our music, from salsa to the boleros of Rafael Hernández, cannot be separated from music culture of Puerto Rico itself. Nevertheless, this entry will emphasize music culture as it has flourished on the island; readers should naturally consult other entries for genres like salsa (most commonly thought of)
In my household there is very diffrent types of spanish being spoken. On my moms side when they speak spanish it sounds if they have water in their mouth and when they speak it is very quick and prenunciation doesn't really matter. On my dads side they speak efficently , except when they are around on another hey speak spanglish a mixture of spanish and english.
In conclusion being mixed with these two cultures is very interesting. The way I am being raised is very diffrent. My parents are very religous and very strict. I am normal in some ways but when it comes to sports, the language of spanish, being respectful, it can be a lot to handel.
