While Scott was driving back to base from St.Lo his jeep got ambushed in which he was shot in the leg, And later he was sent home because of his wounds.
Scott Pendleton Collins leg was later amputated in 1973. He married his long loved girlfriend, Julia. He worked with troubled youngsters in the Roanoke area . And lastly Scott and Julia always stayed in touch with Scott's war buddies. Scott dies in March 19, 1992 at the age of 65, After sacrificing so much for his country.
As Scott Collins was going home he had a bitter sweat feeling because he wanted to go home but didn't want to leave his new found friends in battle.
Scott brought a journal so he could write down his story , even when they were to not to write down anything because if the Germans get there notes that could put the plan in jeopardy. Scott uses the journal to express his emotions and his fears, because Scott has never seen war up this close and stared death in the face.
When Scott joins the Army, he and his fellow soldiers had dreamed of marching into Germany and freeing the world from the evil plans of Adolf Hitler. But psychically and mentally he was broken form the heavy casualties he and company suffered through on the beaches of Normandy, France.
Scott Collins soon finds that being a soldier isn't quite as glorious as he had envisioned back home.
Like many people in 1944 Scott Pendleton Collins went into war to support his beloved country. Becoming a soldier was a family tradition. His great-grandfather fought in the Civil War, and his father fought in World War I.
Scott's first encounter with reality was on 6 June 1944. He and many other soldier landed on the beaches of Omaha. Scott didn't really know what was going on but he pushed through by hiding in water then hiding behind dead bodies. But somehow he makes it to the cliff side from where the enemy was firing from.
