Hello students our group members are Valerie Amezquita,Brandon Hernandez, and Leslie Perales. Our question was how does hospitality stand the test of time? This value connects to The Odyssey because they thought if you wouldn't offer hospitality the gods would punish you, this connects to today because if you don't show hospitality people won't help you out or think your rude and bad person.

This is a short clip when Penelope has offered her hospitality and now wants her suitors to leave her home
The Odyssey
“Come, friend, and give me something; for you seem to be no lowly man among the Greeks, but their most noble lord-indeed a chief. So you should offer more than others can-I’d make you famous then in endless lands. I, too, was once a man of means; my house was rich; I often gave to vagabonds, whoever they might be, who came in need” (Homer, p. 351).
This quote means that if you were to give a person something they will return the favor in what might be better for you.

Matthew 10:41
He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
In this painting Abraham is offering his hospitality by allowing these people into his home and feeding them. He believes that god would want him to show his hospitality to these people.
In this art piece the men and women are offering hospitality to each other by offering their home and their meals.
Shakespeare Quote: “My master is of churlish disposition And little recks to find the way to heaven By doing deeds of hospitality.”
This quote helps explain that people are hospitable because they don't want to get punished for being a bad person. In this situation his master is trying to do good deeds and be hospitable to be forgiven for all the bad things he has done.

Hospitality Song
“A compassionate open home is part of Christian responsibility, and should be practiced up to the level of capacity.”
-Francis A. Schaeffer
This quote means that helping someone is our own part of doing and should be done everyday.
In the 20th century a lot of people wouldn't make enough money due to low employment so people would help out and let them stay in there houses and feed them.
In our presentation we learned that hospitality stands the test of time because people think if they are bad or rude, people wont help them when they are the ones in need. People don't want to give a bad impression of themselves so, they offer hospitality to others hoping for it in return.
