Types of vocabulary

  • Reading vocabulary-Reading vocabulary is all the words he or she can recognize when reading.
  • Listening vocabulary-A person's listening vocabulary is all the words he or she can recognize when listening to speech.
  • Speaking vocabulary-A person's speaking vocabulary is all the words he or she uses in speech.
  • Writing vocabulary-Words are used in various forms of writing.

  • Punctuation marks are essential when you are writing.
  • They show the reader where sentences start and ations finish.
  • Basic punctuations are full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks and question marks.

  • These are words we use to make our sentences longer.

Eg;- and,because, but, so, when, then’ .

  • These words come in the middle of sentences.
  • Connectives are sometimes known as Conjunctions.

  • Vocabulary is the set of words within a language that are familiar to that person.

  • A vocabulary usually develops with age, and serves as a

useful and fundamental tool for communication and

acquiring knowledge.

  • We call them WOW words!

Eg;- Instead of using the word ‘nice’ , we could

other more interesting words such as ‘beautiful,

stunning, fantastic’ etc.

O = Openers

  • These words are used to open or begin sentences.
  • For example: ‘I..., My..., When..., First..., Suddenly...’ There are many more openers.
