Endomorph, Ectomorph, and Mesomorph

By:Maggie Sodders

Endomorph

  • An EXTREME endomorphic person would have a large round head, a large round stomach/abdomen area, large internal organs for someone there size, and shorter arms and legs with the upper parts of the leg and arm being large ,but the bottom half being smaller.
  • Being an endomorph does NOT make you fat.
  • Although losing weight is harder when you are a endomorph
  • Endomorphs are genetically more likely to store fat easily because of various issues with hormones and their metabolisms
  • Endomorphs also generally have larger frames than Ectomorphs and endomorphs.
  • An endomorph's body sometimes has different degrees of carbohydrate sensitivity.
  • If they're metabolically carbohydrate intolerant then a larger carbohydrate diet is not the recommended choice for lipid reducing in endomorphs
  • A nutrition strategy for the carbohydrate intolerant endomorph is to cut some of the processed carbohydrates from their diet especially the white sugar and flour products.
  • If an endomorph wants to lose weight or just stay healthy they have to want it more than the other types.

Ectomorph

  • An EXTREME Ectomorph would have a higher forehead, a receding chin, a thin face, slim chest and stomach area, narrow heart, longer and thinner legs and arms, little fat or muscle, and a large nervous system.
  • Ectomorphs can eat a lot of food and junk with little to no weight gain because of their high metabolism.
  • They have trouble gaining fat and muscle
  • Short shoulders
  • Considered to be linear
  • Generally good endurance athletes
  • If you are a Ectomorph a high amount of good calories and carbohydrates will help you stay at a good body weight
  • Also having healthy fats will benefit you.
  • Ectomorph can suffer from great heat, and because of to little body fat
  • Some famous male ectomorphs include Chris Rock, Brad Pitt, and Bruce Lee
  • Some famous female ectomorphs include Cameron Diaz, Whitney Houston, and Kate Moss
  • The study of how your body type can affect your metabolism is fairly new therefore information is limited

Mesomorph

  • Mesomorphs have a larger amount of muscle than the other types.
  • An EXTREME mesomorph has a large square head, broad shoulders and chest that are generally pretty muscular, large heart, muscly arms and legs, and a smaller amount of body fat
  • Generally have bigger bones and more muscle than ectomorphs ,but less muscle endomorphs
  • A good combination of cardio and weight training is good for mesomorphs
  • Narrow waist
  • Wide Shoulder
  • Gain Muscle Easily
  • Fairly fast metabolism much faster than Endomorphs but not as fast as ectomorphs.
  • Famous male mesomorphs include Mark Walburg, Bruce Willis, and George Clooney
  • Famous female mesomorphs include Jennifer Garner, Tina Turner, and Halle Berry
  • Cardio is good for mesomorphs ,but they can over-do it.
  • Store fat evenly on the body.
  • Most have thicker skin
  • Good athletes
  • High percentage of Fast twitch muscles (muscle fiber that contracts relatively rapidly, used for maximum effort of short duration, like sprinting)
  • Most mesomorphs who try to lose weight end up gaining it but not in fat in muscle.

Relate to Class

  • The Biomolecules are an important part of planing a diet for the 3 body types.
  • In class discussion we talked about how thr body types were affected by metabolism.

Biomolecules

Protein vs Carbohydrates

  • Mesomorphs- More carbohydrates are necessary for a mesomorphs diet but not by much they require 40% carbohydrates and only 30ish% proteins
  • Endomorphs- More carbohydrates are necessary for endomorphs diets also. However endomorphs require 50% carbohydrates and only 30% protein
  • Ectomorphs- Again require more carbohydrates than protein they need 55% carbohydrates and 25% protein.

Protein vs Lipids

  • Mesomorphs- More protein is needed in the mesomorphs diet than Lipids. They need 30-40% protein and 20-30% Lipids.
  • Endomorphs- More protein is also needed in the endomorphs diet. They require 30 percent protein and 20 percent lipids.
  • Ectomorphs- Also needs more protein than lipids but by a smaller amount. They need 25% protein and 20% lipids.

Lipids vs Carbohydrates

  • Mesomorphs- Needs more carbohydrates than lipids. Require only 20-30% lipids and 40% carbohydrates.
  • Endomorph- They require more carbohydrates than lipids. They need 50% carbhydrates and 20% lipids.
  • Ectomorph- Again needs more carbohydrates than lipids. They need 55% carbohydrates and only 20% lipids

Best diet/ exercise for a mesomorph

  • 40% carbohydrates
  • 30- 40% lean protein
  • 20- 30% Lipids
  • Doing these will give you enough calories and energy.
  • Carbohydrates should be more complex than simple.
  • Should eat 1.5g of protein for each pound of body weight. Fish and other lean proteins are best.
  • Eat 5-7 smaller meals daily
  • Eat most of the days carbohydrates at breakfast and after workouts
  • Lose weight decently easy
  • Does not mean you won't be overweight.
  • If you are a mesomorph and wish to get in shape or stay in shape it should be relatively easy.
  • All you have to do to stay in shape is work for it just like 3-5 times a week.
  • Female mesomorphs who would like to gain leaner muscles should use low weight with high repetitions
  • Pilates,Yoga, Boot Camp, and Step Classes are some of the best workouts for mesomorphs.
  • Do not do more than 3 exercises per body part
  • Variety is a good way to gain muscle for a mesomorph
  • Eat healthy Lipids everyday.
  • Female Should consume 2,500 calories a day if you are active
