Orem's Self-Care Model
The Oil Crisis & "Stagflation"
The model consists of 3 theories:
1. Self-care Theory: the ability for individuals to perform activities to maintain their health and well-being
2. Self-care Deficit Theory: when an individual is incapable of providing continuous and effective self-care; this specifies when a nurse is needed
3. Nursing Systems Theory: identifies whether the patient needs, wholly, partially, or supportive compensatory needs; identifies the scope of nursing responsibilities in healthcare situations
