The results of these events benefited America and Cuba. The war in the Philippines ended with the Spanish being forced to surrender. The Americans won in Cuba because when the Spanish attempted to plow through the blockade all of the Spanish ships were destroyed. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris which gave the U.S. control of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.
Many newspaper articles were written about the events that occurred because of the aspiration of Cuba to become independent. In the articles it talked about the Cuban people, and the pain and suffering that they had to endure. This made many Americans support the Cubans mostly because we had fought for our independence as well.
Cuba was trying to gain independence from Spain. Many attempts had been made by Cubans to gain their independence; however they were unsuccessful and many people lost their lives for this cause. The Spanish government then revoked a trade pact tat was among Cuba and the U.S. as well as raising taxes and they introduced new trade regulations.
Troops were also led into Cuba, however the Americans were not well prepared for the conditions and diseases in Cuba, so it was difficult for the troops. The U.S. troops had to force the Spanish fleet out of the harbor to attack them. They surrounded the harbor by gaining control of El Caney and San Juan Hill.
Then the USS Marine was sent to Cuba to ensure the protection of Americans that were over there, and on the way the ship exploded and it was blamed on the Spanish. This tragedy pushed the United States to war against the Spanish. During the Spanish-American War an attack on Manila in the Philippines occurred, and it was led by Commodore Gorge Dewey.
