Size and Distance of the Tornadoes
Path
-The 2 sister tornados were both classified as an EF1 and the single tornado was classified as an EF2.
-The distance that the 2 sister tornadoes traveled was around 5 miles.
-The single tornado lasted no more than 1 mile
-One of the 3 tornadoes reached a diameter of 1/2 mile.
-This picture here shows the whole super cell and if you look closely you can see the hook echo right below the town.
-The white arrow is the path that the tornadoes followed.
-Formed just southwest of our city airport
1) First hit was the Airport
2) Second hit was right on the east side right on the city limit line and moved northeast through a neighborhood.
Tornado Destruction
-3 Tornadoes touched down including a pair of sister tornadoes.
-15 people injured and over 250 people affected by the tornadoes.
-Destroyed 5 buildings including our city airport.
-Flipped an entire operating pump jack and also rolled a trailer house with a family inside (the family was okay just beat up a little bit).
-To make the tornadoes more dangerous, all 3 were rain wrapped and made the tornadoes extremely hard to see.
-The same storm produced up to tennis ball sized hail.
Clean Up Process and Cost
Severe Threat
-The clean up process in the town of Breckenridge did not really take all that long.
-The VFD, families, and friends all put time and hard work into making sure that the families affected would be taken care of and shown hospitality.
-People would bring clothes, food, several cases of water, and even open their own homes up to a family whose house was destroyed or damaged by the twisters.
- Although I cannot find the exact cost of the tornado destruction, I know that it was in the millions ( Due to destroyed airport hangars, houses and also a $13 million airplane.
-The morning news announced that the region had a 90% chance of strong to severe storms and they gave a 60% chance of a tornado touchdown in the area.
-Around 5:00 in the afternoon a severe storm moved over the town of Breckenridge.
-The storm consisted of heavy rains, lightning, hail, and not 1 but 3 tornadoes touched the ground.
-By 5:20 we were under a tornado warning and the Tornado Sirens went off at the Breckenridge City Courthouse
